"Celebrating 5th Anniversary Season"
Building on the success of its young history, including the first ever “BIMFA on the Road 2008” in Shanghai, the highly acclaimed Beijing International Music Festival & Academy (BIMFA) will take place and celebrate its fifth anniversary from August 10 to 29, 2009 in both the historic capital of Beijing and modern city of Shanghai. It promises to be another exceptional experience in both music and culture for young musicians seeking to explore their fullest potentials in life.
The Festival offers
an intensive schedule, focusing on close student- faculty collaboration through individual study and ensemble performance during the festival. It includes:
- Individual lessons twice weekly
- Coached chamber ensembles
- Opportunities to participate in master classes and seminars
- Festival pass to observe all master classes, individual teaching and chamber music coaching and to attend all activities
- Free admission to all concerts by artist- faculty, acclaimed artists and festival participants
- Opportunities for public performance by selected students and chamber ensembles
- Eligibility to enter the Concerto Competition
Concerto Competition
The Concerto Competition offers students a special challenge and an opportunity for public recognition. Participants must be fully registered students of the festival to enter:

1st Prize: $500 cash award with possibility to perform with a Chinese professional orchestra or the Festival Orchestra in future seasons

2nd Prize: $250 cash award

3rd Prize: $100 cash award
Excursions
The historic city of Beijing is the capital of the People's Republic of China and the country's cultural, political and transportation center. Geographically located in the northern part of China, Beijing is an ancient city with a long cultural history and the second largest Chinese city with a population of more than 11 million. Served as the capital for four Chinese dynasties - Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qing, Beijing possesses unparalleled scenic and historical sites that inspire exploration leading to better understanding of Chinese history, culture and the arts, and was the host city for the 2008 Olympic Games. As a special part of the cultural experience, BIMFA will organize at least four excursions* in the Beijing vicinity from the following list:
- Great Wall of China
- Forbidden City (Palace Museum) & Tiananmen Square
- Summer Palace or Temple of Heaven
- Hutong Tour & Drum Tower
- Performance either of a Chinese acrobatic troupe or a traditional Chinese variety show
Located in the middle of China's coastline and at the eastern end of the Yangtze River, Shanghai acts as a link between China’s inland regions and the outside world and is a city of both Eastern and Western cultures. As the largest economic center and the most populous city in China, Shanghai aims to build into a modern international metropolis and a global economic, financial, trading and shipping center by 2020 and is the host city for The 2010 World Expo. Two excursions* in the Shanghai vicinity will be offered from the following:
- The Bund (Wai Tan) & Oriental Pearl Television or Jinmao Tower (Pudong--new area)
- Yu YuanGarden (Garden of Contentment ), Old Chinese quarters , Shanghai Museum (Museum of ancient Chinese art) & People’s Square
- Old WaterVillage (Venice of the East) or Su Zhou (city of silk& forest gardens)
*All excursion expenses (sight entrance admissions, local transportation, gratuities to Chinese tour guides & translators) are included in the total fees paid by each fully registered participant.
